Job Description

Job Summary:
Manage and supervise staff in all undergraduate and graduate advising and student services in Chemical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering departments. Independently develop and manage two complex and comprehensive graduate programs from recruitment to matriculation. Provide advanced academic advising on a wide range of complex issues involving undergraduate and graduate students. Manage both department program budgets including all block grants, fellowships, awards, and work-study requirements. Manage curriculum planning, policies, resources, and financial aid for impacting performance, time to degree, and future career options in both programs. Responsible for teaching assistant (TA), Reader, and Tutor allocations. Responsible for coordinating outreach, recruitment, and orientation activities. Oversee planning and host events. Coordinate the design and updates of social media sites and pages. Maintain alumni databases, relationships and communication.

Physical Demands:
-Sit for extended periods of time at a computer or desk.
-Lift and move boxes of materials weighing up to 25 lbs., hand carts available for use.

Work Environment:
- Travel occasionally, including short overnight trips.
- Infrequently attend evening and/or weekend meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:
Experience at the university level working with graduate students in a degree-oriented program, assessing progress toward degree and the understanding and knowledge of academic needs and concerns of students in a higher educational setting.
Analytical skills to evaluate and interpret complex policies, procedures and reference materials that apply to students. Skills to evaluate and interpret a wide variety of domestic and international college credentials.
Experience with counseling and guidance techniques to advise students and to help them resolve academic, social and emotional problems and to make sensitive referrals.
Analytical skills with data, policy and programs including interpreting evaluating, projecting and problem solving a variety of issues.
Leadership skills to advocate for and guide graduate programs toward their stated mission.
Writing skills to compose and edit correspondence, reports, reviews and informational materials to correspond with applicants, faculty, students, student services offices, and off-campus agencies and organizations.
Computer skills to utilize office software and database applications.
Skills to develop and manage budgets and to assemble statistical reports in support of graduate student funding.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience providing supervision to others, including recruiting, managing expectations and workload, correction action, and training and development opportunities.
Experience with college/university regulations, procedures, university governance and familiarity with public university structures.
Experience with general curricular elements and structures (e.g., courses, units, prerequisites, majors and minors) and pedagogical approaches at the college and university level.
Experience working in an academic environment with pressures (personal/social) encountered by students at a major research university, including student from underrepresented groups.
Skill to develop or adapt procedures to ensure compliance with policy requirements.
Experience using BANNER, GRADTRAKS, DESII, SIS, Filemaker Pro, and Excel.
Experience with course schedule development.
Knowledge of campus academic, student and community services and resources.
Knowledge of general objectives and policies of the unit and campus concerning various graduate programs, and non-traditional and international constituencies.
Experience with confidential student records and other sensitive materials or information.
Skills to examine and assess college transcripts and accurately compute grade point averages.
Communications skills to actively listen, give helpful feedback and provide useful information; carefully chooses tone and delivery in conveying information; uses appropriate media; is aware of impact on others.
Organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines and anticipate needs of the program and students.

Salary

$3,591.67-$7,358.33 monthly
